Senators vote no, object to pullout dates (Maine) - Portland Press Herald
Excerpt:
"Maine Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins voted on Thursday against a $124 million Iraq spending bill because of what they called a "dangerous" provision to begin pulling out U.S. troops as early as July 1.
"I think at this point we need the political surge to go in tandem with the military surge," said Snowe, an Intelligence Committee member.
Collins, a member of the Armed Services Committee, said the Iraq Study Group and the National Intelligence Estimate each warned that a hasty withdrawal would lead to massive civilian casualties, create a haven for al-Qaida in Iraq and open the country to intervention from Iran."
