Excerpt:
"The Bush administration has failed to nominate any candidates to a newly empowered privacy and civil-liberties commission. Bush Appointee Blocked By Nine-Second Senate Session
Excerpt:
"A nine-second session gaveled in and out by Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., prevented Bush from appointing as an assistant attorney general a nominee roundly rejected by majority Democrats. Without the pro forma session, the Senate would be technically adjourned, allowing the president to install officials without Senate confirmation."

Clinton Insiders Fear Secret Service Records Could Damage Campaign
Clinton Insiders Fear Secret Service Records Could Damage Campaign
Excerpt:
"Because of Sen. Clinton's unique status as the first former First Lady to run for President - and because her husband was succeeded by a Republican - she is the first candidate to have both her and her spouse be subject to regular, long-term surveillance by an Executive Branch agency controlled by the opposing political party....
Homeland Security is under the control of Michael Chertoff, a longtime Clinton nemesis dating back to his work as a Republican lawyer on the Senate's Whitewater investigation in the 1990s. In 2003, Sen. Clinton cast the sole dissenting vote against Chertoff's nomination as a federal judge in protest against his abrasive conduct during the Whitewater inquiry."

White House: NYT wrong about CIA tapes
White House: NYT wrong about CIA tapes
Excerpt 1:
"The Bush administration on Wednesday called "pernicious and troubling" a New York Times article on the White House's role in the destruction of CIA interrogation tapes.
Citing unnamed administration officials, the Times article says at least four top White House lawyers took part in discussions with the CIA between 2003 and 2005 over whether to destroy videotapes of the interrogations of two al Qaeda operatives."
Excerpt 2:
"One source told the Times that some officials expressed "vigorous sentiment" for destroying the tapes. Others asserted that no one at the White House supported the tapes' destruction.
However, those same sources said none of the lawyers specifically told anyone to preserve the tapes, the Times reported."

By Gov. Eliot Spitzer - Why I'm Suing the Bush Administration
Excerpt:
"Somebody had to do it.
After months of negotiation and countless attempts at compromise, the Bush administration is still refusing to let New York and other states across the country expand their State Children's Health Insurance Programs (SCHIP). The president is refusing to back down from destructive new rules his Administration has imposed -- the sole purpose of which are to curb bi-partisan state efforts to insure more of our nation's children."
