"Franken apparently will have to spend at least a portion of his campaign fund to try to fend off opposition for the Democratic nomination. Michael Ciresi, a wealthy lawyer and past Democratic Senate primary contender, on Wednesday filed his own statement of candidacy for the party’s 2008 Senate nomination.
And while Franken has made an impression by reaching seven figures in roughly six weeks of campaigning, he has a long way to go to catch up with incumbent Coleman in the money chase. Coleman’s FEC filing reported that he finished the first quarter with nearly $3 million dollars cash on hand."
