CQPolitics.com: Big Infusion from Utah Helped Boost Romney to Top of GOP Money List
Excerpt:
"Romney has close ties to Utah, where most residents share his Mormon faith and where Romney took over and helped rescue the financially troubled and scandal-plagued Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City five years ago.
Those connections were evident in his initial presidential campaign filing to the Federal Election Commission (FEC), made by last Sunday’s deadline. He reported raising about $2.8 million from individuals in Utah — a sum exceeded only by the $3.4 million he received from donors in California, a state where the number of inhabitants is about 15 times the population of Utah. Donors in his home state of Massachusetts gave $2.3 million.
Romney is a former chief executive officer of Bain and Company, a management consulting firm, and he co-founded the private equity firm Bain Capital. Several dozen employees of those organizations contributed to Romney’s campaign."
