NJ signs first bill in decades banning executions
Excerpt:
"New Jersey on Monday became the first state in more than three decades to abolish the death penalty after a state commission ruled the punishment is "inconsistent with evolving standards of decency."
In signing the bill, Gov. Jon Corzine called it a "momentous day" and made the Garden State the first state to ban capital punishment since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated it in 1976."
