President Presses Congress to Make His Tax Cuts Permanent

"As Democratic leaders urged action on an economic stimulus measure in the Senate, they wasted no time Monday in pouring cold water President Bush’s budget plea for a permanent extension of his 2001 and 2003 tax cuts.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid , D-Nev., sharply criticized Bush’s fiscal 2009 budget proposal, saying it “fails to respond to the real problems facing middle-class families” and would harm the elderly and the poor."
