World leaders condemn Bhutto assassination
Alex: Condemning this by world leaders, while not a bad thing, is largely ceremonial and even PR in regard to effect (i.e. there is no real effect).
I am a big believer in the rule of law. I don't believe in vengeance ("an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind") but I do very much believe in accountability. All persons of decency should speak out to insure that all others that might be responsible for this crime be apprehended and put behind bars. It is important that a full but appropriate response be found if we wish to create the type of world in which we really wish to live.
Excerpt:
"(CNN) -- World leaders reacted with shock and condemnation Thursday to the assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
"I am deeply shocked by news of the latest attack in Rawalpindi which has claimed the life of Benazir Bhutto and killed at least 15 other people," said British Foreign Secretary David Miliband in a written statement."
